Galveston Bay Charters

It's hard to believe here we are in the middle of May and we have yet to get into our usual summer pattern of calm southeasterly breezes, water green to the beach, and the mid-bay reefs being fishable. The fish have been hard to get to (in the open water) with the wind blowing this way, so we've been pretty much pinned to the shorelines and wading slicks and areas with active baitfish to score most all of our fish. The topwater bite has been really good considering the rough conditions. You cannot work your bait in the normal walk-the-dog pattern and have alot of success in these conditions. We were trynig that the other day and getting alot of blow-ups, not hook-ups. Once we started working the bait real slow and letting it stop in the waves for long periods of time and just keeping our line tight we started hooking up on a regular basis. Sometimes we would just reel straight in real slow and were successful that way also. When this wind finally settles down things are going to get pretty crazy. The surf will be awesome, along with drifting the mid-bay reefs.  I'll start this report off with a few thoughts that ran through my mind the other day. We have one of the best fisheries on the entire Gulf coast, if not the best. As I was crossing the bay the other morning trying to make a decision on where I wanted to start our day I suddenly realized it really doesn't matter, we're catching fish almost every where we stop. This bay system is the largest on the Texas Coast, has the largest population in it's proximity, yet most people seem to think that they need to go south to catch alot of fish. This just baffles me to no end. So on this particular day I pulled up somewhere I have not even fished all summer and they were there. We had 14 trout in the box before 8 o'clock and left them biting because Mr. Fisher wanted to see some other places on our beautiful bay. I obliged and pulled up the anchor and off we went. We only made two more short stops and we were finished with our trout for the day. Overall I was on the water 4 days this week and had limits on a couple of occassions. The trout are really healthy and most were in the 2 to 4lb class. We also had a few reds up to 26 inches and one oversized. Have only a few days open for the rest of August, however some of those days are prime days. So give us a call and come experience Galveston Bay in all it's glory. Until next time...

Well the weather God's kept us pinned to the shorelines for most of the week. Working topwaters early we were able to score pretty consistently for the first hour of daylight. Once the sun came up we were switching to plastic and able to land several trout and a few reds. Over the weekend we were back over the midbay reefs, however we are now fishing alot furthur north than we have been for most of the summer. We are fishing deep shell and around well heads in upper Galveston and lower Trinity bay and have been scoring on a consistent basis. The outlook for the rest of the week bodes pretty well considering the way it blew last week. Have some openings left in August and you can take advantage of a special we are running that is posted on the front page.
